Philosophy of Teaching

I believe each child is a gift from God and each child has different way of learning.  I believe it is our role to provide for each and every child the knowledge that they are a part of  God's  family because He loves them and they in turn should love Him.  As educators, we are preparing children to be lifelong  learners in both the secular world and in God's world and these attributes should not be separate or different.  I believe an important role of being an educator is being an example of Christ and showing Christ's love through my words, actions and teaching.

Philosophy of Teaching

I believe that children grow and develop through stages and that learning takes place best when the child is ready. Children should be allowed to move through stages at their own rate of development, using learning styles that best suit them.  Our classroom provides a wide range of materials, experiences and unstructured activity periods giving children the time to examine, explore and absorb a rich environment using all their senses.  Emphasis is placed on the opportunities to learn and discover through play and the importance play provides in every area of development.

Teaching children is so much more than teaching facts and information.  I love that at Immanuel we teach not just academic subjects but Christian character and how through God's love, grace and mercy we are saved and will one day be in heaven.  We learn how to use the gifts He has given each one of us to His glory.  I can't imagine not being able to pray in school and talk about how much God loves us.

Spanish Teacher

E-Mail:

Current Position

Spanish and photography teacher

 Experience

I have completed one year at Liberty University and am continuing my education.  During my time at school, I shot for the Liberty Champion.  A few photos were published.  I also interned under a wedding photographer.  I spent four years in Mexico City and Oaxaca.  While there, I taught English in an orphanage for a year and assisted in the organization of numerous children activities in Spanish.

Degree(s)

Working towards a teaching degree.

Interests

Reading, photography, and of course, my amazing baby girl!

Philosophy of Teaching

I strive to make learning a fun and interesting opportunity for students.  I believe that learning a language should be more of an oral experience.  Songs, games, Spanish only conversation, and art projects are the main catalysts through which they learn.  As students grow, it is necessary to slowly introduce them to writing and understanding simple grammar structures.

Profile image of Dana Robinson

Dana Robinson

Music Teacher and Choir Director (Little Ark, K-8th)

E-Mail:

Experience

Dana has been teaching music and movement to children and directing children’s choirs for preschool through high school age children for 11 years in churches and schools both in Oregon and Iowa.  She looks forward to now teaching music and directing the choirs and musicals here in Illinois at Immanuel Lutheran School.

Degree(s)

BA Music, Theatre/Dance from Luther College (Decorah, IA)

500 hr. certification in Kids’ and Family Yoga and special training in Children’s Yoga Therapy (for children with ADHD, Autism, Asperger’s)

Interests

When I am not teaching I love to read, sing, dance, be outside in God’s creation, and I especially enjoy traveling with my husband and three kids.  We love to travel and serve on mission trips together sharing our love and God’s word as a family.

Philosophy of Teaching

I believe in helping children to find their “voice” not only in their musical talents but as a child of God.  We will learn the basics of reading music, singing, and playing instruments, then give the students room to create music of their own.  In giving them the freedom to learn and explore within a creative setting in the fine arts, they grow in their confidence, as well as in their relationship with Christ.

Art Teacher

Current Position

Art Teacher

Experience

This is my 2nd year at Immanuel. I have 10 years of teaching experience. I was a 1st and 4th grade teacher in St Louis, MO for four years. Then I taught pre-school for six years in Lake in the Hills.

Degree(s)

I attended Concordia University of Chicago in River Forest. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Education with my teaching certificate for k-8.

Interests

I enjoy reading, riding my bike with my kids, scrapbooking, and time with friends and family.

Philosophy of Teaching

I believe that teachers should teach in the way their students learn. I engage my students in discussions about our projects and artists. I want my students to feel free to express themselves through their art. I ask my students to not give up and to try their best. Art is what they make of it, not how I make it. I give them the tools, the ideas, and I teach them how to approach making art, but it is up to them to make it their own. I have a lot of enthusiasm for teaching art and I hope it transfers to my students and their enthusiasm for art.
